The Living Word: Wattstax 2 is een krachtig document van een historisch moment in de muziekgeschiedenis. In 1972 organiseerde platenlabel Stax Records een benefietconcert in Los Angeles ter herdenking van de Watts-rellen uit 1965. Dit evenement trok meer dan 100.000 bezoekers en bracht de grootste artiesten van het label samen op één podium. Gevestigde namen als Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers en Rufus Thomas gaven onvergetelijke optredens. Het concert was niet alleen een muzikaal hoogtepunt, maar ook een belangrijk cultureel en politiek statement. De beroemde 'I Am Somebody'-speech van dominee Jesse Jackson, die als MC fungeerde, onderstreept de boodschap van die dag.
