Sinds hun debuutalbum Wait for Evolution uit 2009 heeft de band een indrukwekkend oeuvre opgebouwd met een uniek geluid dat zich kenmerkt door strakke gitaarriffs, catchy refreinen en een flinke dosis experimenteerdrift.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDe band, die bestaat uit frontman Torre Florim, gitarist Vedran Mircetic, bassist Jop van Summeren, drummer Tim van Delft en toetsenist Rocco Hueting, is niet bang om buiten de lijntjes te kleuren. Zo maakt De Staat gebruik van ongebruikelijke instrumenten zoals een typemachine, een bladblazer en een ventilator om hun kenmerkende geluid te creëren.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMet hun tweede album Machinery (2011) brak De Staat definitief door bij het grote publiek. Het album leverde hits op als ‘Sweatshop’ en ‘Input Source Select’ en werd bekroond met een Edison. Ook live maakt de band grote indruk met hun energieke shows en spectaculaire lichtshows.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eOpvolgers I_CON (2013), O (2016) en Bubble Gum (2019) werden eveneens goed ontvangen en bevestigden de status van De Staat als een van de meest vernieuwende en interessante bands van Nederland.
